Welcome to my Homelab site!

About

This is a blog about my homelab adventures; successes, failures, and everything in between.

What is a "homelab"?

A place to learn. Specifically, a place to learn about computers, IT, networking, devOps, etc. This typically manifests itself in the form of physical computers, switches, and sometimes datacenter sized server racks...

My Homelab: What I Do & Why?

What

My homelab functions as a place to learn. A place to learn about virtualisation, containerisation, computer networking, web hosting, and system administration. In addition, it also serves as a miniature "home datacentre".

Why

As an aspiring system/network administrator, a homelab provides me with an environment to learn skills and technologies used in enterprise Information Technology. I use my homelab to self-learn, make mistakes, and ultimately learn more.

I also find it fun! I enjoy both learning about and tinkering around with computers, and a homelab is an excellent place for just that. I also use parts of my homelab as a home-prod as well. Both this blog and my photography site, are self-hosted in my lab. I also run a variety of other services that are useful in daily life and around the house, examples being: a self-hosted media server, file server, photo backup server, adblocking DNS, and even a pantry inventory site.

In short, I homelab because it provides a learning environment, and a place to selfhost useful services.
